How to get rid of snoring
29. 09. 2013
Snoring is a very serious problem that affects both women and men. Unfortunately, this problem is often not taken seriously enough. If untreated, it can cause significant health issues. Snoring leads to apnea, which is a lack of oxygen due to the blockage of airways by soft tissue (soft palate) in our mouths. Such a prolonged condition can lead to a stroke or various heart diseases. Equally important (perhaps even the most important) to mention is the fatigue that haunts “snorers” throughout the days and years, affecting their professional and personal lives. Besides fatigue, there is also nervousness and a feeling of not fully controlling one’s life. The partners of “snorers” are affected by this problem just as much – they do not have peaceful sleep – in fact, they have no sleep at all.
There are many products that promise to stop snoring. Various pillows, sprays, nose clips, some backpacks that are worn at night on the back are advertised… Recently (this is why I am writing this) I came across a solution involving a mandibular splint that is worn in the mouth at night, and it works on the principle of slightly pushing the lower jaw forward, thus expanding the space through which air should pass (I should mention that I am also one of those who suffer from snoring problems). This seemed very logical to me, so I searched the Internet for where I could buy such a splint in Croatia. I found several dental offices that produce and sell this splint, however, the price is a substantial 3,000 kuna. Since I did not want to spend that money on something that I did not know would help me, I decided to search Amazon and eBay. There, I found quite a few similar products that supposedly solve snoring. Their price is slightly less than 100 kuna (with shipping). So, thirty times less than “ours”. I decided on one that is inventively called “Stop snoring solution” (you can find it under that name on the Internet).
After the splint arrived, it took me a few days to get used to it, and lo and behold, I no longer snore, and my wife finally sleeps peacefully. Of course, I do not want to advertise this specific brand because I believe that the others are equally functional (some may even be better in terms of comfort, that is, quicker adaptation to wearing something in the mouth during the night). This is just the first one I came across.
I should also mention that not smoking, not consuming alcohol before bed, and weight loss greatly contribute to sleep quality. Sometimes, just by regulating these three things, you can solve the problem.
