How to make calendula ointment
17. 11. 2024From calendula flowers, you can easily make a medicinal ointment that successfully treats skin conditions and wounds.
Calendula, also known by its Latin name Calendula, has been cultivated in European gardens since the 12th century. This medicinal plant originates from Egypt. It is worth planting it among summer flowers for its decorative appeal. It will equally bloom beautifully in pots. In the past, the sight of calendula was used to predict the weather: if the flowers were open around 7 a.m., it was predicted to be a fine day, but if they were closed, rain was forecasted. Its medicinal properties were used by the ancient Romans. Hildegard von Bingen, a famous abbess and herbalist, recommended it especially for digestive issues. The plant can be used both externally and internally. Today, it is most commonly used for wound healing, sprains, and alleviating severe menstrual issues. Calendula ointment, used for treatment or in cosmetics, can be easily made at home. It is not always possible to find dried parts of the plant. Therefore, it is worth planting it. Just make sure to harvest the yellow flowers.
- Take 50g of dried calendula flowers, pour 1/2 liter of olive oil or peanut oil over them, then seal well in a jar and keep in a warm place for 2 to 3 weeks.
- Pour the flower oil into a pot, heat it, and remove from heat before it boils. Add 40g of cocoa butter and 40g of beeswax.
- When everything has melted, remove from heat and stir well. Cool the liquid and before it starts to solidify, pour it into smaller, dark jars.
