Psoriasis

There is significant data suggesting that various types of fish oils can alleviate or reduce psoriasis symptoms, an inflammatory skin disease characterized by red, dry, scaly skin, pain, and itching. British scientists from the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield found that an amount of fish oil equivalent to a daily meal of 140 grams of oily fish, such as mackerel, significantly eased symptoms, especially itching, within eight weeks. In another study, Vincent A. Ziboh, a dermatologist at the University of California, Davis, found that 60% of participants in a small group showed mild to moderate improvement – reduced redness and itching – after taking fish oil capsules for eight weeks. However, other studies have not shown noticeable improvement after taking fish oil, if any.

Nevertheless, since psoriasis is an inflammatory disorder, and fish oil has anti-inflammatory properties, it certainly makes sense to consume a higher amount of oily fish. Tiny amounts of the oil over time can start to have beneficial effects. The most effective part of fish oil is called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which is particularly abundant in salmon and mackerel.

Furthermore, as with all inflammations, it is wise to reduce the intake of animal fats and omega-6 vegetable oils, such as corn oil, sunflower oil, and canola oil, as well as margarines and baking fats made from them.

In addition to the above, for people who suffer from psoriasis, I also recommend bioenergy treatments, which can ease and completely eliminate the disorder.
