Get rid of the annoying cough
14. 11. 2012
Although a cough can be very uncomfortable, it contributes to our health by clearing the airways. Generally, a cold is the cause of a strong cough. First, we feel a throat irritation, and then we start coughing. Expectorants that help clear mucus can relieve the discomfort. Additionally, hot baths and natural cough remedies are effective. Of course, always drink plenty of fluids, preferably herbal teas.
Violet and Ivy Tincture
This tincture has proven especially effective in relieving irritant cough.
- 20g violet flowers
- 20g ivy leaves
- 0.7l vodka or similar
Chop the herbs, place them in a bottle that can be sealed well, and add the alcohol. Let it stand for four weeks, shaking it daily. Then strain and pour into sterile dark bottles. Take 15 drops three times a day on sugar or bread (for diabetics, I recommend bread).
Relieve Irritant Cough
- Make an effective cough syrup from black radish. Hollow out the radish, place 2-3 teaspoons of honey inside, and make a hole at the bottom with a knitting needle. Place the radish in a glass on a radiator (or other heat source) and drink a tablespoon of the syrup that drips out every hour or two.
- Warm beer relieves irritant cough. Heat 1/2 liter of beer with 4 tablespoons of honey and drink slowly.
- Syrup made from fir needles also removes unpleasant cough: Let 200g of fresh fir needles stand for 24 hours in 1/2 liter of water, then heat everything to boiling, strain, and boil with 500g of sugar into a syrup. Drink 2-3 teaspoons.
- Applying a nutmeg compress overnight quickly relieves discomfort. Apply a thick layer of pharmacy vaseline on a linen cloth. Sprinkle and knead in 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Place the cloth on the chest and secure it well with a woolen scarf.
- Inhaling steam from various preparations also alleviates cough. Add 2-3 drops of eucalyptus, thyme, or cypress oil to boiling water.
- Drink sage tea (sage) mixed with milk and sweetened with honey.
- Heat a cotton cloth soaked in olive oil in a pan, and before bed, place the cloth on your chest (make sure it is not too hot). Cover the cloth with a woolen scarf and keep it on until morning.
Icelandic Moss Soothes Irritated Mucous Membranes

- 3 teaspoons of Icelandic moss
- 1/2 liter of water
- 250g of yellow cane sugar
Pour water over the herbs, heat the mixture to boiling, and cook until about half of the liquid evaporates. Strain and boil into a syrup with the sugar. Take 1 tablespoon every 3 hours.
Lavender and Mint Tea
Lavender flowers have a soothing effect on the airways.
- 20g of lavender flowers
- 20g of mint
- 1 liter of water
Bring the water to a boil, add the herbs, and let it stand for 5 minutes. Strain and drink 3 cups a day. Sweeten as desired.
Horseradish, Onion, and Honey Preparation
Horseradish and onion contain antibiotic substances.
- 1 tablespoon of horseradish
- 1 tablespoon of onion
- 5 teaspoons of honey
- 5 tablespoons of water
Grate the horseradish, mix with honey, add chopped onion and water, and stir well. Cook briefly and then cool. Take 1 teaspoon 5 times a day. Caution: Not recommended for diabetics!
Fruit Elixir
Elecampane clears mucus, relieves cough, and soothes spasms.
- 10g of dried blueberries
- 10g of rose hips
- 10g of fennel seeds
- 20g of elecampane root
- 1 liter of dry white wine
Boil the fruit and fennel seeds in the wine for 5 minutes. Strain, add elecampane, and let it stand for one day. Strain and pour into a bottle. Take 1 teaspoon three times a day for 3 weeks.
Bioenergy is also an effective method for combating persistent and bothersome cough and a useful aid for expectoration (productive cough). Bioenergy helps relieve discomfort and relax muscle tissue, reducing the urge to cough.
